Cedric Theodore Walton – North Steyne SLSC
Cedric T Walton was a Life Member of the Branch and a long-standing member of North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club. Cedric carried out recording duties over many years at Branch, State and Australian Championship carnivals. As we all know, without officials we would not be able to run carnivals. One role that is often overlooked is the role of the recorder. Without a recorder, we would have no results and no point score at the end of each carnival.
Cedric made crystal radio sets which he sold at work and as crystal radio sets were eventually superseded by the valve radio sets, Cedric made these as well.
Cedric was a clerk for the Municipal Council of Sydney located at the Town Hall which would later became the City of Sydney where he worked as part of the Sydney Country Council. SCC purpose was to develop and provide electricity with in the city, an employer that Cedric would work for all his life located at Bathurst Street, Sydney City
His sporting activities were at North Steyne Surf Life Saving Club on Manly Beach across the road from Pine Street, where his lifelong passion for handicap swimming was fostered. despite never being an outstanding competitor and champion he would often win races and swim with the manly swimming club enjoying the camaraderie and friendship of his fellow swimmers. Cedrics skill in swimming was often put into practice as like any good lifesaver would always watch the beach and water looking for anyone in distress and when necessary used the belt and line to swim the rope out to the person in need before his fellow club members would pull them back towards the beach.
Cedric was awarded SNB Life Membership in 1963.
Cedric passed away on October 29th, 2002. He was aged 97.
