Chris Roberts

Chris Roberts – Newport SLSC

Chris began working in the Radio Room at SurfCom over 30 years ago when Branch undertook training of disabled people in the facility through a Government Grant.

Chris is an outstanding Radio Operator, volunteering more than 200 hours of service each surf season and he is also dedicated to the training and mentoring of new Radio Operators. Chris is highly regarded for his skills in Radio Communications and has made a significant contribution to our community through his voluntary work in the Radio Room at SurfCom, for a period in excess of 30 years.

His dedicated service has been recognised previously, with several awards including Branch Outstanding Service in 1999, Branch Distinguished Service in 2006, Radio Operator of the Year in 2004 and 2006, The Harry Ragan Outstanding Service Award in 2007 and SLSSNB Life Membership in 2008.

In 2022 Chris was awarded the prestigious NSW Government’s Community Service Award, which recognises individuals in NSW who have substantially helped to improve the quality of life of members of their community. He is truly a great role model for other volunteers in the Northern Beaches community and well worthy of this very special accolade.

Chris was awarded SNB Life Membership in 2008.
