Jack Smiles – Avalon SLSC & Warriewood SLSC
Jack was originally a member of Avalon Beach SLSC where he gained his Bronze Medallion and Instructors Certificate in 1947 and he served as a delegate to Sydney Branch for 2 years during this period (1947-51).
Joined Warriewood SLSC in 1951. He was Honorary Secretary from 1953-55. Club Captain from 1955-56. President 1956-64 and presented with the Honour Blazer in 1958. In 1964 Jack became a Life Member of Warriewood SLSC.
At a Branch level Jack was the Hon Secretary from 1965 to 1967 and Branch President from 1967 to 1970. As President and Honorary Secretary he was ex-officio on Finance, Constitution, Life Membership and Power Boat committee during this time. In 1970 Jack continued as part of the Branch Executive as as the Branch Deputy President until 1974. From 1974 he served on numerous committees including the Judiciary Committee, Finance Committee, Constitution Committee and Liaison Committee.
Jack was Secretary of the Fundraising Committee for the South African Tour, Executive Officer on the South African Tour of Australia and the Manager for the Long Reef visit to Orewa, New Zealand 1968/69 season. (First international visit by a Club team).
Jack was also instrumental in revising the Branch constitution with Lindsay Paton.
Jack was awarded SNB Life Membership in 1981.
Jack passed away.
