Ken Brown – North Narrabeen SLSC
One of the most hardworking, dedicated members of North Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club was Ken Brown. He joined the Club in 1953, gained his Bronze Medallion in the 1953-54 season and he served the Club with distinction and was a feared man in the early years of Malibu Surfboard riding when craft had to be registered with the local council or be impounded.
Ken was also a regular member of John Sullivan’s champion March Past team, which was the best team not to win an Australian Championship. Ken became involved when Nippers formed in the early 1960s, and that group has held his interest to the present date. It was a fitting reward for a fine lifesaver from North Narrabeen.
The Manly Warringah Junior Surf Lifesaving Association awarded Life Membership to Ken Brown, who had been Branch Deputy President for six years before retiring in 1978/ 79 season. Ken was also a Manly Warringah Branch Delegate to the Surf Life Saving New South Wales Juvenile Association.
Ken held the positions of Publicity Officer and Carnival Organiser for the Surf Life Saving New South Wales Junior Titles at North Narrabeen in February 1973. At carnivals, he had been an Age Referee at Surf Life Saving New South Wales Titles, a Sectional, Beach and Deputy Carnival Referee at Manly Warringah and Metropolitan carnivals.
Ken had always given 100 per cent effort to any project or task that he had accepted, he was honoured with Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches Life Membership in 2008.
Ken was awarded SNB Life Membership in 2008.
