Robert Buckingham – South Curl Curl SLSC
Robert first joined South Curl Curl SLSC in 1969, where he gained his Bronze Medallion in 1971. Over more than 38 years, he has been an invaluable asset to the club as an active patrolling member.
Bob’s commitment to serving the Manly Warringah Branch and Sydney Northern Beaches Branch is commendable. He voluntarily took on the role of Branch Auditor for an impressive 16-20 years, making a significant contribution to the SNB Surf Life Saving community.
At the club level, Robert has served in various roles, demonstrating his versatility and dedication. He served as Club Treasurer for nine years. Club Auditor for another nine years, and Club Competition Director for seven years. Additionally, he led the club as President for three years.
Despite his extensive years of service, Robert remains actively involved in his club, generously contributing to the training of future lifesavers. Over recent years, he has trained 40 SRC’s and mentored 17 Bronze Medallion candidates, ensuring the clubs continued growth and success.
Robert’s relentless dedication has been recognised with several prestigious awards, including the 10-year, 15-year, and 25-year National Patrol Service Awards. He was honoured with Life Membership of South Curl Curl in 1986 and received the esteemed SNB Life Membership in 2010, reflecting his remarkable and ongoing commitment to surf lifesaving.
