Ross Matthews OAM

Ross David Matthews OAM – Long Reef SLSC

 

Ross joined Long Reef SLSC in 1961 and held a number of key positions at Long Reef SLSC. Ross was the Social Organiser, Branch Delegate, Chief Instructor, Club Captain, Club President for 9 years and  Executive Vice President. Ross was part of the House Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Membership Committee.

Ross joined the SNB Board of Examiners in 1971 and he was part of the Patrol Efficiency Panel. He held the position of District Supervisor at Branch for 2 years, Deputy Superintendent 1985-86, Superintendent 1986-87 and Competition Director 1988-89. Ross was also part of the  SNB Life Membership committee, Meritorious Awards committee, Judiciary Committee and Constitution Committee.

Ross held SLSA Awards of Bronze Medallion,  Instructors Certificate, Examiners Certificate, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate, Radio Operations Certificate, Advanced Lifesaving Certificate, First Aid Certificate and his  IRB Drivers Certificate.

Ross was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his service to the community through Surf Life Saving and the New South Wales State Emergency Service.


Ross was awarded SNB Life Membership in 1993.


Ross passed away on December 19th, 2019. He was aged 74.
