Member Services

Surf Life Saving Sydney Northern Beaches is the biggest Surf Lifesaving Branch in Australia with more than 18,500 members ranging from 5 year old Nippers to Life Members, some in their nineties.

Surf Life Saving is an inclusive organisation and we encourage everyone to be part of what is regarded as one of the most trusted organisations in the world.  Of course you don’t have to hold the Bronze Medallion to be a member of SLSSNB or even to patrol our beaches; you can be a volunteer in so many ways.

To be eligible to wear the red and yellow uniform and the iconic surf lifesaving cap you need to be an active Patrolling member either holding the Surf Rescue Certificate (13 years of age) or the Bronze Medallion which can be attained at 15 years of age. All surf lifesaving clubs run the Bronze Medallion course, usually a couple of times during the summer, and from there members can pursue a variety of other awards from Advanced Resuscitation Techniques, First Aid, Advanced Emergency Care, Radio officer or Jet ski driver.

Surf Life Saving also prides itself on its leadership pathways, mentoring and junior development. All of our clubs are encouraged to nominate members for the junior and senior leadership conferences, Junior Life Saver of the Year and our end of season Branch Awards of Excellence,
