Surf Sports Update

Our surf sports season is well and truly underway now, and our members are voting with their feet as we see participation numbers very strong across all events scheduled so far. Our first two junior carnivals saw in excess of 300 competitors turning up to each, whilst our first two Fast Five rounds have totalled almost 400 competitors, a very positive result.

This weekend sees our Surf Boats hit the water for the first time, with over 80 crews taking part at Newport, whilst close to 200 Masters competitors will be taking part in the annual Freshwater Masters carnival. This will be a Teams event, with the winning Club acknowledged with the ‘Ross Parry Cup’ in recognition of Freshwater SLSC much-loved Life Member and founder of the Freshie Masters, Ross Parry. The Bennett Fast Fives Series moves to North Curl Curl for Round 2 on Saturday, and we have our First Aid and Patrol competition group taking part in some scenario training at Newport on Sunday, to round out one of our busiest weekends of the season.

Whilst the Covid-19 situation has forced us to change how we run events, we have shown that we can successfully run our carnivals in a safe and efficient manner, despite the restrictions we have to operate under. We have received very positive feedback not only from the competitors, many of whom are travelling from outside our Branch to attend, but also from the Council, who have been very impressed with our detailed planning and execution.

We have to thank everyone that has attended carnivals so far this season, for their flexibility and adaptability to the new way carnivals are being been run. Your ongoing support will ensure we can continue to provide plenty of events for our members as we push on with the 2020-2021 season.
