There are several requirements for anybody wishing to compete in a Surf Life Saving carnivals starting with having the relevant current award. Every competitor must be a financial member of their surf club and have competitive rights with them if they have multiple club memberships. This provides members the required insurance coverage.
Whilst there are some exceptions, anybody competing in U15s or higher will need to meet the minimum patrol requirements as outlined in SLSA Policy 5.04 (this policy is available on the SLSA Members Portal).
This policy outlines the following service hours that are required to be eligible to compete at Branch, State and Australian Championships events:
For Active and Under 15 members
- Option A – 25 patrol hours
- Option B – A minimum of 10 patrol hours and minimum of 15 hours of service to the club as endorsed by the club.
For Reserve Active members
- Option A – 12 hours patrol
- Option B – A minimum of 5 patrol hours and minimum of 7 hours of service to the club as endorsed by the club.
120 Day Rule for Non Award Members
For new SLS members who wish to compete prior to gaining their SRC or Bronze Medallion, they just meet the competition eligibility requirements as stated in the SLSA Surf Sports Manual. Details on how to apply for this can be found in the 120 Day Rule SNB Policy v1-1 document attached.
