Arthur Castleman MBE*
Arthur joined Newcastle SLSC in 1928 and gained his Bronze Medallion that same year. He gained his Instructors Certificate in 1935, joined Queensland Board of Examiners in 1937 and Head Centre for Queensland Board of Examiners in 1939 until 1957. In 1937 Arthur was also Vice-President for the Point Danger Branch.
Arthur enlisted in the RAAF in 1941 until 1946 when he moved to Sydney and was awarded Life Membership of the Royal Life Saving Society.
From 1948 to 1949 he was the Secretary for Head Centre Board of Examiners, 1949 – 1952 the Secretary for Sydney Branch Board of Examiners, 1951 – 1957 Secretary for the State Centre. In 1952 Arthur became the first NSW State Delegate to SLSA National Council a position he held until 1957.
In 1964 Arthur became the Vice-Patron of NSW State Centre, from 1967 – 1969 he was the Secretary for the Manly-Warringah Branch as well as being on the Meritorious and Constitution Committees for 3 years from 1968, after this he became Assistant Registrar for 2 years.
Arthur was awarded Life Membership of Branch in 1953, SLSNSW in 1953, and Life Member of SLSA in 1955.
In recognition of many years of service in the fields of Education and Surf Life Saving, the award of Member of the British Empire was bestowed upon Mr Arthur Castleman in 1970.

Arthur passed away on August 9th, 1974. He was aged 68
