June King – Newport SLSC
June’s journey in the Surf Life Saving community began when she joined Queenscliff in 1972. She later transitioned to Newport in 1981, where she continued to thrive and make valuable contributions. Throughout her time at Newport, June earned her Bronze Medallion in December 1983 and held various leadership roles, including Club Treasurer, First Aid Officer and House Captain in 2002. Her dedication to the community extended beyond her club roles as she served in several key positions within Sydney Northern Beaches, Hon Treasurer from 1983 – 1986, Hon Secretary from 1986 – 1989, Club Representative from 1989 – 1990, and SLSNSW Craft Scrutineers from 1983 – 2001.
Junes remarkable commitment to SLS has been recognised with numerous prestigious awards. In 2003, she became the first female member to receive Newport SLSC Life Membership. She was also honoured with the SNB Distinguished Service Award in 1991, the SLSNSW State Official Appreciation Plaque for 25 years of service in 2006, the 30 year SLSA Service Award in 2001, the 15 year Officiating Service Certificate in 2012, the 25 year Long Service Award in 2006, the 30 year Long Service Award in 2011 and the 40 year Long Service Award in 2021. June was awarded the SNB Life Membership in June 2012 and has served the surf life saving community for over 40 years.
