John Swan

John Swan – Freshwater SLSC

John joined freshwater in 1967, completing his bronze medallion a few years later on the 7/12/1969. johns time as part of his club had started at young age initially being a member of his clubs gear committee during his early 20’s, eventually being named at the age of 23 to the positions of boat vice-captain and club vice chairman an experience which helped him in achieving the role of club president, a position that john would hold for a period of 13 years helping to grown and develop the club and manage its 1,200 members and 397 active patrollers at the time. john throughout his time with Freshwater SLSC has acted and represented his club in a number of different settings, serving as a coach, as a competitor of which john was a very keen competitor competing in his favourite event surf boat racing. he also served as one of the clubs trustees and as a member of the carnival committee helping to plan and organise carnivals for his club. Johns service with Sydney Northern Beaches branch was as part of the branch building committee.

johns 44 years of service to surf life saving and his club was recognised with the awarding of the 25 yer SLSA patrol service award in 1992 and being granted life membership to freshwater in 2000. john was awarded  for his service to Sydney Northern Beaches, SNB life membership in 2011.


John was awarded SNB Life Membership in 2011.
