Ernest (Ernie) Davis OAM – Manly LSC

Ernest (Ernie) Davis began his surf lifesaving journey as a young schoolboy at North Curl Curl SLSC, earning his Bronze Medallion at the age of 15 years in 1952.  That same year, he conducted his first rescue.  Following a five-year break living down South, Ernie became a member of the Manly LSC.  Ernie’s dedication and leadership were evident in his 15-year tenure as Manly Club Captain, along with his service as Assistant Chief Instructor for many years.

At the Branch level, Ernie held numerous important roles, including Branch Assistant Treasurer for two years in 1976, followed by serving as the Hon Treasurer for another two years.  During this time, he actively participated in various Branch Committees, such as Life Membership, Meritorious Awards, Rules and Regulations, Judiciary, Board of Examiner, Selector, Gear Steward, and Finance.  Additionally, Ernie took on the role of Branch Administration Director for three years, from 1998 to 2001.

Ernie’s commitment extended to state, national, and international levels.  His remarkable contributions earned him the prestigious Medal of the Order of Australia in 1997, in recognition of his service to sports administration and coaching in the field of surf lifesaving.

Throughout his extensive service, Ernie has left an indelible mark on the surf lifesaving community, inspiring many with his dedication and passion to saving lives on the beach.

Ernie was awarded SNB Life Membership in 1986.
