Fred Bertram MBE

Fred Bertram MBE – South Narrabeen & Narrabeen Beach

Fred joined the South Narrabeen Surf Club in 1937 and was subsequently elected Gear Steward, followed by Senior Vice President, and finally President in 1946, were he served for a period of 21 years.

In 1951 he was awarded with Life Membership of the club. Fred was also well known for his attendance at many club functions and send offs, during which he made many friends both locally and interstate.

We would like to express our gratitude and appreciation for the service that Fred had given to South Narrabeen and the Lifesaving moment.

The loss of a friend and a Life Member should not go past without remembering his for his great repertoire of jokes and his tremendous wit.

As a hard worker for the Surf Lifesaving Association Fred managed the New South Wales State Team to Victoria in 1950. He also used one of his work trucks to take the team members to South Australia to catch a train to WA for the Australian Titles in 1951.

Some of Freds other achievements include:

  • Forming the Far South Coast Branch
  • Was a member of the Steering Committee to form the Manly Warringah Branch
  • Was Awarded Life Membership of the then Manly Warringah Branch
  • Together with the Lions Club formed Narrabeen Beach Surf Life Saving Club

Fred was awarded SNB Life Membership in 1983.
